I'm a huge Thrice, but yet after hearing this album a couple of times I was confused. I was excited to hear The Grey before the album came out, but after listening to the full album I didn't think there was a story to the album. Most songs didn't seem to belong together and at times I felt like I was listening to another band. I'm still a fan of Thrice, but this was not one of their best work.

We all know Thrice throws in musical changes on each record; and that’s why we (at least I) love them. I really enjoy this record, and would closely relate it to “Major/Minor”. “Just Breathe” and “Beyond the Pines” really stand out to me, and mark my favorite spots on the album. “Branch in the river” while not a bad song at all (Thrice doesn’t write BAD songs), would be a track I may skip over every other spin of the album. My only real knock on the album: wish it were longer. One-two additional tracks would have been excellent. Hope they release an EP early next year to help tide us all over. (I’ve never been completely satisfied with a 10 track LP). 11 Track minimum! (Without fillers!) Hope to see you guys live soon! Thanks for this record!

By far not their best, but it took a few listens to completely hate this album

Thrice has literally been my favorite band since I heard their first some in the beginning of high school. Love this album. Dustin is such a talented songwriter and of course musician. I’m so glad to see them back together. I honestly could go on and on and on.

Thrice is that band where you go on a journey of spiritual reflection, often times a painful but graceful reminder of our imperfection. With that said, this album is not as powerful as thrice could be. I had to force myself to listen to a couple of songs, which for thrice that’s quite a knock against them, as I’m accustomed to just hitting play and forgetting about life and just listen to pure genius. The album has its gems, only us and my soul being my favorites. Thrice has veered too much away from their equivocal, yet biblical content and have rendered a more worldly view here. Solid effort and worth it for the die hards, but I really wanted more.
  • A step down, but not bad.

I can't say I am a huge fan of this album. I really enjoyed the last album, it was well constructed and lyrically incredible. It was a step in a totally different and intriguing direction. This album kind of takes elements from that, but makes it honestly a decent amount weaker overall. Certain songs on the album I do enjoy a decent amount, including a couple of the singles and a few surprising and enjoyable songs. So many though are very generic in sound, lyrics, and just overall kind of boring. This album isn't bad by any means, but it seems like a lack of effort was put in. I recommend you all check it out though, it has a song or two for everyone, but overall as an album it is lackluster.

Thrice is one of those bands who seem to constantly weather the storm. Trends come and go, other bands get big, have their 15 minuets, and fade away, yet Thrice continue to remain as they always have. An uncompromising group who refuse to do anything they don’t believe in. Palms is another progression. Every record has always had a very raw, stripped down feel. This time you can hear bigger production. The songs themselves are still Thrice, but they sound bigger, more full. With all the constant changes life deals us, it’s comforting to know we’ll always have Thrice

I'm impressed by Thrice's resolve to push something new just about every album. Will this be perfect for everyone? No. But I feel like you can't deny that they have done something that's consistent with what they do; challenge themselves and their listeners. I've been a long time Thrice fan (since Identity Crisis) and the thing I love about these guys is that you can never pin their style. I hold the opinion that Vheissu is their masterpiece, but this one is great too. Overall, I actually think this flows better than their last album.
